Automation Rule- Ensure All linked issues i.e children's inherit the Epics Fix version

Amruta Sunil Harale March 21, 2024

Hello Team,

I am looking to set up an automation for Jira. When a ticket gets added under a specific epic. It then matches the fixed version to the same as the epic.

Also If I set this rule then old ones also need to be mapped automatically once the automation rule is set.

Please Help.

Hi @Amruta Sunil Harale

This is a fairly common scenario, and I believe there are project level templates / examples for it.

Have you already started a rule, and are having problems with it?

If so, please post an image of your complete automation rule, images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches, an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution, and explain what is not working as expected.  Those will provide context for the community to offer ideas.  Thanks!

If not, I recommend looking at the templates for copying a field to a created issue from a parent issue.

For the second part of your question, you are trying to "catch up" earlier issues to the epic, correct?  If so, that could be done with a scheduled rule which runs until the issues are synched as needed.  But please note well, what do you want to do if someone has already set the Fix Version field: leave it as is, replace the value, something else?  Pause to consider that before enable such a rule.

Kind regards,
Bill
