Automation trigger doesnt work when field changes from bulk import

I cant figure this out. I have an automation attached below that is supposed to transition the status when a certain load number is filled in. I most often import this date with the bulk data import since its many fields but it will not work if the trigger is based on field value changingh or comment added. It works fine if I enter the field in the normal way. the only way i can get it to work is to set it up as a scheduled trigger. is that the only way? is there a limitation with bulk importing of fields? Or is there something I am doing wrong?
