Automation

Nicolas Mayans January 11, 2024

Hello everyone! I wanted to ask a question regarding Automation. They are asking me if there is the possibility of creating an automation where if the fix version is added or changed, it is replicated in the linked incidents, whether they are daughters or parents. This is possible?
Greetings!

Hi Nicolas,

There's a bit of a difference between "linked" and "child/parent".  A link says "there is a relationship", and the child/parent says "one is part of, or grouped with others that make up a whole"

In familial language, I have two parents, and one cat that sees me as a parent (I provide food, shelter, fuss, play, and a warm place to sleep).  There is a hierarchy here - my parents are her grandparents.  I have a non-hierarchal relationship with my friends - I am linked to them.

All of that is an analogy, and a broad one.

You only need to think about the triggers and relationships you have.  You don't need to explain them to us unless you get stuck in the detail because:

Yes, you can use "Fix version added or changed" to create a script or automation that will copy the version to other issues based on a relationship with them.  Whether it is parent/child or just linked, you can add a fix version to another issue at the other end of a relationship.

Am not sure what you mean by Fix Version added..

New version created or Fix Version added to a story?.. cause that determines your initial trigger.

If its either added to a story or fix version updated, you need 2 rules.

One checks updates to the story and One checks updates to the version..

But to begin with, you need to create your 2 JQL queries to identify linked issues correctly, if you have it, this can be done, helps to have scriptrunner to write this JQL..
