Back up issues to safeguard against changing issues by mistake

Hi, 

We use bulk change quite often and also some of the excel add on that allow changes to be made very fast and easy. My question is if lets say a huge change was made by mistake, is there a way to undo a change, and undo it if its done and not noticed right away? I see there is a back up feature in jira, i would presume you could restore from the date of the last back up but is there a way to schedule this weekly or something like that and a safeguard or is there another way to undo a change that is made?
