Basic search doesn't work properly

I'm trying to use basic search, filtering on Assignee. if I enter the name of an assignee it doesn' work properly, the only options seem to be current user or not assigned

That's the behaviour you get when you do not have the "browse users" global permission. Check in admin -> global permissions.

Just start typing username and you will see in list requared users.
