BigPicture - How to Set Display Order by Hierarchy

Paul May 11, 2020

Hi,

I've BigPicture server version 7.11.5 and I've configured tasks structure as Portfolio Epic (link-based) -> Epic -> Story.

In Gantt my issues are displayed by issue key (because I clicked "Organize tasks A-Z -> Key).

However, I'd like the order of displayed issues to be by hierarchy issue type and then by a key:

1. Portfolio Epics

2. Epics

3. Stories

Where and how can I set it up please?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul

Try the program's administration -> Tasks -> Task structure. Experiment with structure builders, as in the example below. Drag and drop them.

Thanks Marcin,

That works perfectly fine for a single project.

The problem is if you have 3 Jira projects combined in BigPicture's scope:

- the master project has "Portfoilo Epics" - project key SSS

- the middle project has Epics linked to Portfolio Epics by link ("portfolio link") - project key BBB

- the bottom project with Stories and Tasks linked to Epics by "Epic Link" - project key MMM

How can I set the the order of displayed items (kind of SQL's "order by") so the structure will start with master project's items?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I asked our support team:

This might be due to the Portfolio parent link. Try using a different link (any Jira custom link will work, just make sure it is not used as the Gantt link in Technical configuration > General > Link configuration. Link your Portfolio Epics with your Epics using this link and activate the Structure builder based on this link. Place it on top of the structure builder links (replace the Portfolio one).

Note the 8th of May, 2017 comment here https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Why-aren-t-parent-links-being-recognized-in-Portfolio/qaq-p/580611

If that doesn't help, please e-mail us at support (a) softwareplant.com, and specifically ask for a call to be scheduled, and we'll try to set it up on your instance.

Does it sound fair enough?
