Billing JIRA Software

Narayan Basak November 21, 2023

(Jira Software) has option of User and None and Confluence has Guest, Guest User, None and User. What does each of this option represents? Which all should be considered in cost segregation for both?

Hey @Narayan Basak,

It's straightforward when it comes to separating costs for each application. For your cost overview, please head to the admin hub for your Cloud site on admin.atlassian.com and navigate to "Billing". You see the current licensed users for each application and the next price estimate. You assign certain product roles to specific user groups in the Product section behind "Manage product". And full product access means the license is a standard user and costs money :)

For Confluence, you have the following four roles explained in the UI:

As you can see, by default, only the product role "User" and "Product admin" grant access to Confluence and will create costs. As user groups are used to assign product roles, your setup might look different, or specific user groups might grant access to multiple products. As I said, the default uses other groups for application access to Confluence and Jira Software (and Work Management) and Jira Service Management to clearly separate the user groups (the product roles are for Jira = "User" and for Jira Service Management "User (agent)". Let me know if you have further questions. :)

Best, Max

Hi @Narayan Basak

The difference between user and none is a user consumes a license; users can access the product and use its features.

In Confluence, a guest is not billed (i.e it's free-of-charge), and allows a guest to be granted access to a single Space, with some other limitations applied. You can have up to 5 guests per billable user.
