Hi Sowyanja,

I believe Atlassian documentation is the best resource that you can have

https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/expand-jira/jql

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/what-is-advanced-searching-in-jira-cloud/

After reading these, I recommend getting some practice by running queries in your instance. We'd be happy to help if you have any questions.

Best,

Gökçe

Sure. However, I would caution you against using a book or some pdf as a resource since Atlassian constantly releasing new versions and making changes to Jira. A book might contain outdated information which in turn could potentially cause problems.

I agree with that - I've got shelves full of books that are woefully out of date.  I just have a rather human "I don't want to waste this" feeling stopping me getting rid of them.  They can be great when they're written, but instructional books have a curve of usefulness, especially for specific IT systems.

Books on IT systems tend to become obsolete rather quickly as software gets updated.  Generalised software principles, less so, but books do become obsolete.  Web-based docs are far better, as they tend to get updated.

The only thing that tends to decay faster are videos - I've seen someone spend a week getting together a really good instructional video and deliver it on a Friday morning.  And when the users arrived at work on Monday, the new release had made it obsolete.  At least the books on the subjects were ok - they were text descriptions of what to do, so "click on X" still worked, unlike the videos that pointed you to where X used to be last week...

Look for the Jira books by Rachel Wright, Matt Doar and Ravi Sagar.

Thank you @Nic Brough -Adaptavist- for the titles. I'm recently using Jira as a full time tool and need to excel in JQL. Also, let us know if their are any webinars on this topic going forward.
