Bug: JIRA Cloud Text Formatting Does Not Work When Creating An Issue

Rob Simpson

When creating a new JIRA issue and selecting text formatting options in the toolbar to format a number of lines of text, the formatting fails for most of those options, including:

  • B - Bold
  • I - Italics
  • U - Underscore
  • Strikethrough
  • Citation
  • etc.

Expected result: When you click "B", "I", "U", "Strikethrough", "Subscript", "Superscript", "Citation" or "Monospace" in the text formatting toolbar, the appropriate formatting should be applied to the text.

Actual result: Formatting characters are placed at the beginning and end of the selected text. After the issue is created, those characters are still there. The text is not formatted while editing nor after the issue has been created.

However, it does work OK for things like colored text via the red "A". In this case, the formatting instructions are added while the text is being edited but after the JIRA issue has been created, the text appears red as expected.

All formatting should probably be achieved in the same manner as the ones which work. For example, since "color:red" works for the red "A", the "I" option could add a "style:italic" instruction.

Is there a way to supply a URL privately?

Bold, italic, underline and strikethrough are working for me.

Superscript, Subscript, and Citation give me the same results you see.
