Hi, I was creating a new issue in Jira Cloud and tried to upload an image to the description. In GitLab it accepts the image, stores it and adds a link to it to the description. In Jira a green "+" icon appeared to indicate the image is accepted but then the browser opened the image as a page. When I pressed the back button the issue was gone and all the content lost.
Expected behavior: the image should be uploaded and added to the issue description.
Note that the issue was created via the top "Create button" and edited in a popup dialog. The editor in the dialog is missing any "upload image" button. When I edit and existing issue the editor has more buttons, including "upload image" and the image is can be successfully uploaded via drag-and-drop.
Browser: Chrome 81.0.4044.138, OS: MacOS Mojave 10.14.6.
Hi Bohumir,
Sorry to hear about this problem. I understand that you are trying to create a new issue in Jira, but that process of drag and dropping an image file into the description seems to be forcing your browser to load that image instead of adding it to the description.
I have tried to recreate this problem, but so far I have not been able to reproduce this same behavior. I have tried with Mac OSX 10.15.5 in
But in each browser, when I'm using the Create button to make a new issue, I can still drag and drop an image file (tested both png, and jpg), and these are added as an attachment with the markup code in the description to let these display as a thumbnail.
I am wondering if perhaps your system or browsers might have some kind of default file association that might be responsible for this unexpected behavior. If you were to just try to open such files on your system, what application opens to view these? Preview? Chrome? Something else?
Which specific file formats are you trying to add in here? I'm curious if there is something else that might cause this behavior for you that we haven't seen yet.
Also drag and drop should not be the only way for you to add such images to a Jira issue, even on first create. Within the toolbar of the description there is a paperclip icon you can click in order to then browse where on your file system to attach that file to this issue. In order for Jira to display these images, they have to first be added to the issue itself, and then you can use some markup to include that image in line in the description.
Interested to learn more about your environment here so that we can try other steps to reproduce this behavior.
Andy
