Bulk imported issues but missed out on mapping a custom field which is not mandatory.

How to bulk update the uploaded issues with the field that was missed out given that the field is a text field type of unique values?

Hi @asd asd

You'd need to use the Admin CSV importer (Jira Admin/System Admin only), as Issue update is only possible through there.

The basic steps are...

  • Export the Issues you need to upload to a CSV
  • Set the columns to upload to Issue Key, Summary, Text Field
    • Issue Key, Summary would be taken from your export, and should remain exactly as-is
  • Populate the Text Field values
  • Next, as a Jira Admin go to Administration > System > External System Import
  • Use the CSV option, and follow the instructions.
    • But, when mapping the fields, ensure you map the Issue Key column to Issue Key, so it updates Issues, rather than creating new ones.
    • If done correctly, a blue notification box will appear stating: You have selected Issue Key mapping. Please note that importer will update existing issues matching the Issue Key from the CSV file.

You can see more details on the CSV Importer, including Updating existing issues (search for this title), on this help page.
