I am attempting to do a bulk update of JIRA issues and description field is not available. Is there a way to accomplish this currently or would this be a new "feature"?
Is Description on the edit screen for your issues?
Yes. Also, we are using JIRA Software v7.1.6

Doesn't appear that you can bulk update the Description field at this time unless you go through the API. Hopefully Atlassian changes that. Vote on https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-67821 to show interest.
