Can 255 limit be increased on Read-only text field

The Read-only Text field has a limit of 255 characters I was wondering if there was a way to increase or remove the limit on this field?

there has been a Suggestion on this but it was closed with "Won't Do".

To my knowledge therefore there is no such option.

Not without massive code changes.

You'd need to rewrite a chunk of code that talks to the database, a little bit on the screen and change the database model to support it.
