Can I add watcher who is not part of a project

Currently we can only add watchers to a ticket who are part of the project…
ie. Only helpdesk staff can be added as a watcher on a helpdesk ticket.

Sometimes it is requested to have another client added to a ticket …
(all of our clients are Jira users for our instance)

Do any of you know if there is a mechanism to do this?

 Is there a setting we can change so that any user can be added as a watcher on a helpdesk ticket?

Can users add other users as watchers?

In our helpdesk project currently we can only add members of the project ... but of course all jira users can submit tickets ... just only the submitter can see it, and members of our helpdesk project.

@Tyler Dobie

Welcome to the community

No You can't add. Watcher is nothing but the person who will get all the updates related to that ticket or want to track the issue.

If its not part of project then its illogical to add him as a watcher. So you need to give him browse Project permission So he can able to watch the issues

To add watcher You also need manage watcher permission  and Browse user permission to search the user

Hi @Tyler Dobie and welcome to the community!

In order to add watchers, the individual needs to have the browse projects permission in the project's assigned permission scheme.

Also, if this is a JSM project, you probably want to look into Participants instead of Watcher, which is managed through the portal.
