Can I create Jira issues from a list with bulk import ?

ELI0067 June 17, 2022

Hi All,

I would like to know if it is possible to import a spreadsheet file and convert it to Jira issues "simply by importing the file".

To be more specific it should automatically create a data import in the specific Jira Issues and with the specific data fields.

In this case the user would just have to press the "create" button to have all the Jira issues created in the queue issues dashboard.

Bulk file to Jira Issues .pngThanks to everyone who will answer me.

Hey @ELI0067 ,

I don't think so. There is a bulk import mechanism but that's reserved for admin users only (cause you need to know what you are doing)

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/import-data-from-a-csv-file/

simply having issues created by adding them as an attachment isn't gonna work..

Hi Dirk, thank you for your prompt reply. I've read that may be it is possible throught REST API? Do you have any idea?

I personally don't see why the rest API would help here.. perhaps I'm misunderstanding your use case.

Yes, you can import issues using a csv file but only admin's can do it (see my link)

No, you cannot create an issue with an attachment and have that create other issues for you. Maybe if you use something like scriptrunner you could read the file and start creating your own import however that seems very tedious..

Hi Dirk,

Thanks for showing me all the possibilities.

I need to make this system as automatic as possible. This is why I am interested in understanding what could be done even at the cost of creating a script on purpose.
