Can I format a custom date field that is updated by a next-gen board rule

I am using a next-gen board rule to set a custom date field to the date a task is moved from one status to another. It is currently displaying as yyyy/mm/dd, I would much prefer it to display as dd-mmm-yy eg 24-Apr-20, or something similar to this. Does anyone know how to apply such a format, assuming it's possible ?

Have you considered changing the date format for your Jira site? Instructions for changing the date format in Jira Cloud are here. This is a site-wide change; it will affect all the date fields for all your users.
