We have a project with several components. The components represent the different platforms/teams we support. We have one component that represents our own team project work. Is there a way to set the component so that only members of my team can select this particular component?

Not natively - a component is a project object, so it's available for all issues in a project.

You'd need to code to make it user related.

Alternatively, you may opt not to use Components at all (if you want to control it). Use a Custom Field List picker.

And if you do modify the code, you'll have to maintain it in future releases and the old code modification may not work.
