Can Trello Be Used With Jira Project Data

Our teams are adopting Jira, but for at least one of them the simplified interface of Trello would be advantageous. Is there way to use Trello to manage issues from Jira? I see that there is a 3rd party add on to establish a bidirectional sync, but I am hoping that Atlassian has brought the two products together more closely in the years that have passed since the acquisition.
