We have added new status to the issue type 'BUG' and added the same status to the board to appear on the backlog. As it is mandatory to have the status on the board to have the BUG in the backlog.
The Team just wants the BUG in the backlog but they don't want to see this status on the board as this is of no use. Is there a way to hide this column from the display of the board?
The New status added is in between 'In progress' and 'Done'.
I see a lot of blogs have been written on this but wanted to make sure is this possible. Any information would certainly help us.
Thanks,
Vijay
You can't "hide" a column - if a column exists, it is shown (it's pointless not to show a column if it exists)
But, you don't have to have a column. If you unmap the new status so that it is not in any column, and then remove the column from the board, you'll have the desired effect.
Problem is that you won't be able to get to the issues in that status from the board.
The issue here is, If I unmap the status and remove the column from the board the issue type 'BUG' is disappearing from the backlog view. The 'BUGS' are not shown when it is in the newly added status. But the project team want the 'BUG' to appear always in the backlog and the 'status' not be on the board.
So i was thinking to hide the column by having the status mapped to the column and not to display on the board but show in the backlog.
Is there a way to do this ?
Thanks,
Vijay

No, as I said, you lose access to the issues in that status because you've removed it. Remember that the board is a visualisation of a pile of issues. If you choose not to display something, then it's not on the board. You need to decide simply whether you want these on the board or not.

I've added a comment here that will add a "hide" button on every column, can be improved
