Can a workflow have multiple submit transitions?

I have a requirement for an issue to bypass a status or two upon submission, depending on the issue type (there would be 3) or other field of the parent issue.  To accomplish that, I can map a field to the child item and create automation(s) in the child.  I just wonder if it's possible instead to create 3 submit transitions for the same workflow, with each of the 3 following different initial paths within the workflow.

No, a workflow can only have one create transition. Instead of using fields and automations your other option would be to use different workflows for each issue type.
