Can't apply new transitions to workflow

Jeff Wilson May 2, 2019

I created new workflows for our project.  When I created the transitions on the first one they work well.  but when I created the additional workflows I was unable to apply the transitions I created.  I choose the status I want to go from and the one I want to go to and I get a message saying a transition doesn't exist.  but I just created it on the other workflow.

Is there a step I'm missing to make those transitions available across workflows?

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Hi @Jeff Wilson ,

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to use a transition from one workflow in another.

Please help clarify.

If this is the case then please note that the above is not possible and you can only use transitions that are within the same workflow(there are other conditions that apply here as well such as a transition will only be shareable if they all go to the same end status).

  • A transition Done from Open to Resolved can be re-used by another connection from another status to Resolved, like In Progress to Done but
  • A transition Done from Open to Resolved cannot be re-used by a transition In Progress to In Development.

These are some of the behaviours of JIRA and should you have further questions, do let me know and I would be happy to help.

If you could provide a screen shot of the workflow and where you have the problem, it would be great.

Thanks.

Thank you for the feedback.  So I am trying to re-use the transition between different workflows.  The status begin and end are the same.  but sounds like I have to recreate the transitions within every new workflow I create.

Thanks!

that is correct. transitions are local to each workflow.
