Can't connect to Bugzilla MySQL db when importing issues into Jira

I am moving from Bugzilla to Jira Ondemand. To get there I'm importing my bugzilla issues into jira server (then into ondemand)

I'm getting this error when I try to run the importer

"Error connecting to the database: Could not create connection to database server. Attempted reconnect 3 times. Giving up."

I've tried the suggestion on this page already:

We are running this mySQL version on the bugzilla server:

mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.73, for redhat-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.1

Most likely bugzilla server blocks 3306 MySQL port form outside. Make sure to adjust the firewall. You may need to google how to do it for your redhat version.
