Can't make custom field optional

Hello. 

My custom field is showing up on forms as required. I've updated the field in the Field Configuration for the project as optional, but field still shows a required with a red asterisk. Result is the same when I click on the 'Required' and then 'Optional' link. Need field to show up in form without red asterisk and allow empty field.

What is the type of the Jira project where the forms are being used? You can find the project type information in the Type column on the View all projects page available under the Projects menu.

How were the forms created? Did you use functionality native to Jira to create the forms, or are you using a third party app? Can you provide a screen image of the form where the field is showing up as required?

Just a quick addition to Trudy's input – you might want to check out the field configuration scheme linked to that particular request or issue type. It could be a helpful step in resolving the matter.
