However, it is not as simple a just moving the issues. Service Management project issues include a Request Type field that is not used in Software projects. That field would need to be back filled after the move. There may be other fields that also need to be filled.

Is your source project a Company Managed project or Team Managed project?
Is your destination project going to be a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project?
Do you have custom fields defined in the source project? If so, do you have the same custom fields defined in the destination project?
I recommend that you set up a test project like your source project, and another test project like your destination project, and test out the moving of issues to discover what might be lost.
