We are using JIRA 5.0.2 and we want to update to the latest. But in a document it was mentioned that the backup we took can be deployed on the same version of JIRA. what if i had to take a existing JIRA backup and upgrade my JIRA and then restore it?
Please advise me as we are planning on doing it soon.
As for JIRA 4.3 the recommended upgrade procedure is an inplace database upgrade.
So you should (on a test server) restore a database with a copy of your 5.0.2 database, make a copy of your 5.0.2 jira home directory and point the new JIRA 5.1.x and these. When it starts up it will upgrade your data and database to the latest version. You can then test and make sure it works. If so, schedule downtime to do this on production
