Can you create multiple forms within one project? If so, how would you go about doing that?

Ashley Leger March 6, 2022

Right now when I click on forms for one project, I am only able to work with one form.

Situation: We have different requests for our Creative & Design team. Want to create unique forms for each request for employees to fill out with required information. Want all of the requests for each form to be consolidated into one sole project so that our Creative & Design team can keep track of all requests and progress in one area.

Hi @Ashley Leger

if I read this correctly you want a different set of fields displayed for each request type, under the same project.

This would require creating new screens for each request type for the project. Each screen can then be designed to show a different set of fields(form) for each request type.

example:

Jira Project A:

          - Request Type 1

                 - Create Screen (set of fields to be displayed)
                 - View Screen (set of fields to be displayed)
          - Request Type 2

                 - Create Screen ...
                 - View Screen ...

Hi @Ashley Leger and welcome to the community!

You don't specify whether you use Jira Software, Jira Work Management or Jira Service Management so let me explain the options.

Jira Service Management (JSM):

there you have portal which contains "Request Types". Request types can be considered as specific unique forms which link back to one or more issue types in the backend.

This way you have the same process in the backend but different forms depending on what type of request (request type) is being submitted by the customer.

Customers here don't need a Jira license

Jira Software (JSW) & Jira Work Management (JWM):

There you don't have a portal but you can create separate issue types. Each issue type has 3 screens (create/edit/view) which can be specific to the to the issue type. It's a bit more hassle and less streamlined but still possible.

For these, each user that creates a ticket, has to have a license for the product.

for both products, Atlassian has recently release the new Forms feature (on cloud) to create dynamic forms. that can be applied to both products too.

So depending on the product you have there are different options. Hope this helps you a bit.

Thank you Dirk, really appreciate your fast response. I have JIRA software (cloud) and am trying to use the dynamic forms feature but can only associate 1 form to a specific project.

Wondering if there is a way to create multiple forms under 1 project, and depending on the request type can select the form that's pertinent for them to fill out.

**Without using script editor or purchasing any add-ons (unless this functionality doesn't exist in a free format).

I'd like to know if there is a solution to this too :)

I ended up just using JIRA Service Management, creating different request types and then connecting respective forms to each. Made the most sense for the functionality I wanted.

Within JIRA Service Management, you can go to Project Settings on the left-hand side for your specific project -> click on Forms -> create a new form for each instance needed -> within settings tab within the form can then link request type(s) to the form.
