Hello Team...I have multiplue departments working within a project and I want help them easily identify their tickets by changing the issue type icon..is this possible within a project or would this be global change?

Changing the Icon will affect all projects globally. You can have different Issue Types with different icons. But not the same different icons with the same issue type.
