×Hello. I have created a new software project this afternoon while we're in the process of evaluating Jira. I am now trying to create a new board, but when I go to create a new board from an existing project, there are no projects available in the dropdown. I have seen other community threads that mention the project type needs to be a software project or other specific project type and I can confirm I am definitely using a software project. Is there any way to resolve this?
Hello @Jon Morozowski
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
Are you accessing the Create Board option from the Boards list?
Or are you accessing it from the + button next to a project name in the navigation panel on the left?
If you go to the list of all projects (through Project > More Projects > View All Projects) and filter for Jira Software Projects, in the Type column do you projects show that they are "Company-managed Software" or "Team-managed Software"?
When you go through the Create New Board dialog and elect to create a new board based on an existing project, the project list presented will include only Company Managed Software projects at this time
To create additional boards for other types of projects you have to:
1. Create and save a filter that selects issues from that project.
2. Create your new board using the "from saved filter" option.
Thanks. Creating a new company managed project resolved the issue.

What was the root cause? Were you working with a Team Managed software project?
Team Managed software projects come with the ability to have just one board connected directly to the project. There is a change requesting asking for them to support multiple boards, like Company Managed Software projects do.

But otherwise the workaround is to create saved filters for such projects and then create boards based on the saved filters.

Yes, I was in a team managed project. Switching to company managed worked. Thanks!

Hi @Jon Morozowski,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
In the new UI you do not have to select the project when you create a new board from within the project, it will automatically set the destination as the current project.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
And to add, you can now have multiple boards in a Work Management project, so selecting the type is no longer needed.

Thank you for the information. Is there any updated documentation for the new UI? When I go to all boards and then click create new board I am presented with the option of creating either a SCRUM or Kanban board. If I click Kanban board then I am prompted to create a new project or create based upon an existing project. If I pick the option to create based upon an existing project then the next screen shows the Project selection as mandatory. Should I be creating the boards a different way?

So when you create a new board from the All Boards you have to select a project because each board needs to be located under a project, and because you are not in one you need to specify it. In the old UI you had to do the same while in the project, but in the new UI it assumes that you want the board to be under the current project.
How you create boards are up to you, but I think in the majority of cases it is done from within the projects and not from All boards.
