Cannot see scripted field in 'Statistic Type' drop down on Dashboard gadget.

Hi all - we have a scripted field that we'd like to display as a pie chart on a dashboard.  The scripted field does not show in the 'Statistic Type' drop down for the pie chart gadget.  

We have considered copying the value to a hidden field to report on that instead, but are looking for a more elegant solution.  Thoughts?
