Cant assign group to issues

We created a group that consists out of multiple people. We want to be able to assign this group to issues so the people in the group get a notificiation once the ticket gets created and when the status of the issue changes.

I can assign the group to a project, give the group rights but i cant assign the group to tickets.

Why? And how to fix this?

Should we create a new user but this user gets an email adress that forwards the recieved emails automatically to the people?

This is the intended functionality, an assignee is normally a 'person' and not a 'group' (a group can't create an issue, or transition an issue, but a person in a group with the correct permissions can do these things)

You can alter the Notification Scheme to notify a Group, and other options:

There is a bit more information on how to do that here: Notification Schemes - I set it to Server 7.12 but you can change to your version in the top right of the page!
