Change of project key

I am looking for some info on change of the project key. I would like to know what things I need to keep in mind or what things will be affected that user should be aware of?

Filters or any other things will those get changed automatically?

Hi @Leena Siddamshetty ,

changing the project key has not impact to your user. 

JIRA will keep a mapping between old and new key so that links, filters and other things will be not affected.

Example :

Old Project Key : AAA

New Project Key : BBB

If you try to access AAA-2 issue, you will be automatically redirected to BBB-2

A background re-index will happen so take that into performance considerations for when you plan to do the rename.  Other than that here's what you can expect.

Editing the Project Key:

• Old project key can be used in JQL queries
• Attachments are still accessible
• Issue links with old key work as expected
• You cannot create a new project with the old / renamed key
• Only deleting the project allows the reuse of the key

i have changed a project key recently. one of the user feedback that, when he pasted the url that consist of the old key to link the issue, it not able to find the issue. is this a bug or system behaviour?
