Change the jira URL to a new company name

I wold like the change url of my jira install from www.mycompany.com/jira to www.newcompany.com/jira. I have 2 questiosn 1. how can I do this and 2. How will this effect my current jira projects ?

Assuming that you’ve first actually gotten Jira to respond at www.newcompany.com/jira, you can change the Base URL in Jira’s general configuration.

http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Configuring+JIRA+Options

This shouldn’t affact your current Jira projects.
