I have various resolution states in my project, for instance - Reviewed. These work as I want them all but they show under closed issues when I use the built in dashboard tools. I don't want that happen. The results in the dashboards should go off the status and not the resolution. How do I change the properties of a resolution to make the issue still show as open (or whatever) in the back end?
There is no way to change the way this behaves. The behaviour of the resolution field and status information is hard-coded throughout Jira.
You must consider them to be in lock-step. Set a resolution on the way into an "ended" status (Closed, cancelled, done, etc, the ones usually coloured green and meaning "no further action needed on this"), and clear it on the way out.
That is the only way you will get the reporting to work the way you need it to. If you want an issue to show as "open", you have to have it have no resolution set.
