Change user automation rule

Ana MINCA August 2, 2022

Hello,

I want to create an automation rule for the following situation:

I have the 4 statuses in a workflow

  • Status A
  • Status B
  • Status C
  • Status D (end of flow)

When the issue is transitioned to status D, I need to rule to change my assignee to the one that transitioned the issue in status B.

I tried several things but unfortunately I am not able to configure it appropriately as none of the values/options from "assign the issue to" help me.

Thank you,

Ana

Hi Ana,

I don't know of a way to do that other than to create a new custom field of Single User Picker type. Then use an automation rule or post function in your workflow to populate that field when you populate the assignee field and the status is in Status B.

Then when it moves to Status D, have another automation rule that simply copies the value of the custom field to the Assignee field.

Hi @Ana MINCA

Yes, and...to John's answer:

What problem are you trying to solve by doing this re-assignment of a completed issue?  Knowing that may help the community to offer suggestions.  For example, is this a reporting need for tracking "who did step B of our process"?  Thanks!

Kind regards,
Bill
