Changing BASE URL when opening Jira to public DNS?

Jan_Treger November 4, 2019

Hello

At the moment we have our Jira server deployed with Internal hostname. (eg. https://jira.local.net) and all customers on internal network can access it.

What we want to do now is to open Jira so it is accessible from public Internet.

We will create a new external DNS record (eg. "jira.company.com") for this.

What I want to ask is if changing the BASE URL in admin area to new external DNS is all I need to do for the links to issues / resources on boards to be working for public internet.

I presume that when I change the base URL all links will be transformed....

I guess same process applies for Confluence server?

Thank you for you input!

Hi @Jan_Treger ,

if you want your Jira Service Desk instance to be accessible from the internet, you will indeed have to change its Base URL to a DNS that is accessible from the internet.

Doing so will change all the internal links from jira.local.net to jira.mycompany.com for example.

Same thing applies to Confluence !

Let me know if you have any questions,
