Cleanup inactive workflows

Eya BEN OTHMEN February 25, 2022

Hello Community,

As part of JIRA cleanup, I found this article for the deletion of inactive worlfows: Advanced cleanup | Atlassian Support | Atlassian Documentation

it is mentioned to make sure that the Validators and Post-functions are not configured with custom fields.

I did not understand the relationship between the deletion of inactive workflows and customs fields?
Will there be an impact please?

Thank you!

Best regards,

Eya

Hi @Eya BEN OTHMEN

Good question.

Validators are used to check whether information is filled in by the user during the transition. It could be something like "Analysis field should be filled in before resolving the issue". Post functions can also be used to update custom fields after the transition has happened.

When doing custom field's usage analysis we often have to also ensure that fields are not being used by workflows before deleting them.

You should be able to safely remove those inactive workflows.

That segment of the docs is slightly misreading - there's no need to check workflows validators and post-functions if you're removing an inactive workflow.

You do when you are removing a custom field - validators and post functions will fail if you delete a custom field they are using.
