This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: JIRA applications overview
So, I've read the documentation about being able to update JIRA Software from within JIRA itself, and I understand that to upgrade JIRA Core I have to download the installer.
What I'd like more clearly explained is what do I and what don't I get if I upgrade JIRA Software and not Core, and the reverse, can I upgrade JIRA Core without upgrading JIRA Software?
Just a bit clearer on differences is all I ask for.
Hi Jonas,
This link should help you with your answers, this is more to do with licensing too
https://confluence.atlassian.com/migration/jira-7/cloud_jira+agile_product-changes
So JIRA Core is the Core part of issue tracking and management that JIRA is meant for
JIRA Software is JIRA Core + JIRA Agile
More information on updating JIRA Core or JIRA Software is on https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-update-jira-properly-794365148.html
If you update JIRA Software from within the admin page, JIRA Core will not be updated, downtime would not be required.
If you download the installer and update, JIRA Core and Software will be updated but you would need a downtime.
Thanks
Santak
Hi Jonas,
How about this page: https://confluence.atlassian.com/migration/jira-7/cloud_jira+agile_product-changes?
There is a simple feature summary towards the bottom of the page. This is from early in the year, so is a little stale. For example, Core now has some simple board functionality: https://blogs.atlassian.com/2016/09/jira-core-means-business-introducing-boards-and-mobile-apps/
Also, Akeles Consulting have a decent overview here: http://www.akeles.com/what-are-the-differences-between-jira-software-jira-service-desk-and-jira-core/
