Cloud-to-Cloud Migration using Imported backup data

David Fang March 29, 2023

Hello,

I am trying to do a Cloud-to-Cloud Migration using Imported backup data: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/import-issues/

Reason I am using this method is because using the Cloud-to-Cloud Migration tool requires me to have "organizational admin" for the second website. And this method seems more straightforward.

I was a bit confused when I was reading that "Import overwrites existing data

This import process overwrites existing data and configuration (including cross-application settings) in your Jira cloud site."

My question is simply if I backup the first website, and export the zip file. And have my coworker who is an admin on the second website import the file. Will it overwrite everything on the second website? I hope it is not the case, because the second website contains thousands of already existing stories, tasks etc, and we only want to add in data from the first website.

Thank you for your help

If you import the backup data from the first site into the second site, it will overwrite all the existing data and configuration on the second site, including cross-application settings. If you only want to add in data from the first site to the second website, you may want to consider moving specific projects or spaces rather than the entire site. Alternatively, you can try using the Cloud-to-Cloud Migration tool with the help of Atlassian support to avoid overwriting existing data.
