Cognos / Spotfire reports with JIRA

We want to develop external reports using Cognos / Spotfire with the data from JIRA. What is the best way to integrate BI tools with JIRA?

"Best" is determined by what technology you want to use, your reporting needs and what you're willing to set up and maintain.

There are several approaches

• Write your reports as addons to JIRA
• Use the REST interface to drag your report data out of JIRA and import it into a reporting front end (or copy it into the tool)
• Use an addon that enables reporting in JIRA (Check the marketplace for Arsenale Dataplane and EasyBI - I think there are others that you should check out as well, but those two are the ones that spring to my mind when someone asks a question like that)
• Replicate the database to a secondary copy and report directly off it - you'll need to build and maintain a data dictionary if you take this route
