Component Watcher not sending notifications to groups

Notifications for individual users are sent as expected, but not for groups. The groups we use are active directory groups with their own email address, when sending a regular mail to these groups, all members of the group receive an email.

The “All watchers” notification type is associated to all issue events.

Any idea why the groups are not receiving the notifications?

When last I worked with JIRA Server it was v7.13. At that time, JIRA would not send emails to Groups, but only to Users, because it would only send emails to valid and licenses users. It was not capable at that time of determining if the members of a Group were all valid and licensed users.

I think it also did not pull in an email address associated with a group, and so would not even have know an email address to which to send the info.

I don't know if that has since changed.
