Configuring custom fields when moving the issue type

When moving an issue from one type to another you get an overview of which fields have been updated. For some fields the contents are just removed. 

Is there a way to configure this, so the contents of those fields can be moved to a different field?

Not without an app that allows you configure the target field. I evaluated Exocet - copy, link and sync Jira issues a while back for a similar situation, but there are other apps on the marketplace that would allow you to do the same thing.
