I am creating a new Epic, A parent link is required when creating an epic. The parent link has not yet been created yet, so how do I make new parent links?

Hi @Enel Elas

Parent Link is a field used to establish a relationship between an Epic (child) and an Initiative (parent). This is meant to be used by the Advanced Roadmaps. It sounds like your admin set the Parent Link field to be required on creation of Epics. I don't know if I would agree with that configuration.

In this case, you would need to select a pre-existing Initiative within the Parent Link field. You can do a text search or search by issue key.

You could also create an Epic by doing it from within an Advanced Roadmap plan. The Parent Link can be established automatically once you associate an Epic to an Initiative.

Regardless, I would ask whoever your Jira admin is to remove the Parent Link being required on creation as that is a poor user experience and not realistic for real-world usage.

Thanks for your reply! I'll speak to the admin about that.

In the given case, can the admin give me the right to create parent links/ Initiatives?
