Hi,
I want to add a new issue type to a number of next-gen projects. For now, I have only found a way to create an issue type within a single project. Of course, I could create the issue separately in every project, but that seems an unnecessary piece of work, especially if I want to update that issue type later.
In the general jira settings, I can create a new general issue type, but I am not sure if these issues would be available in next-gen projects. Probably not.
So the question is, is there a way to generate "global" issue types. I am aware that this year the possibility to copy projects will be introduced. However this still means once I have copied the issue type, chances have to be applied manually in each project that uses this issue type, which I find not very practical.
Thanks for any input,
Cheers,
Felix
I notice this is an older question so the response may have changed. I am trying to add a global issue type and even though our jira admin has added it to the issue types, our boards are not picking them up. Does anyone have an idea about why?
Hi @Hailey Goodner,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
This should be its own question. What type of project are you using? Company-managed or team-managed? If you are using a company-managed project you have to make sure that the issue type scheme that the project is using has the new issue type in it. Just creating a new issue type will not automatically add it to projects.

Hey Mikael!
Thanks for the help. New here, and figuring out what constitutes its own question or not. :)
The boards we are hoping to apply this issue to are team-managed.

Okay, then you have to create the issue type in each project, since team-managed project cannot use global issue types. Team-managed projects are like its own island with no connection to the outside.

At the moment it is not possible to create a global issue type that can be applied to multiple next-gen projects.
