Create new subtask with create-issue-screen, and edit issue with edit-issue-screen

Dag Atle Stentad February 4, 2022

Hi,

Today we use Jira Server. I'm now working on exploring the Cloud version. I have setup a test-site where I have tried to create one of our projects.

On the server version: One of our projects is used by the whole company to register software-risks. To describe the fields, we use Jira Markdown Syntax in Field Configurations. This works great when we create or edit issues. And it works also great when we create or edit sub-tasks (see attachment).

On the cloud version: I have created the same project in Jira Cloud. When I create a new issue it works great, but I'm not able to get the same view when I edit the issue or when I create or edit a subtask. In the new design we need to press the tooltip-icon for every fields to get the field description (small screen with scroll).

Is there any way to force the "old edit/create-screen" when we edit issue, or when we create/edit subtasks in Jira Cloud?

I see I can add ?oldIssueView=true on the issue url, but this is not very userfreindly.

Hi,

I found a workarroud in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-70073 to get the old edit-issue view:

So Here are step by step instructions.

Creating of global transition is al little tricky (there is a known bug here).

1.  In Workflow editor Add Transition Using Button (Add transition). DO NOT create transition by starting on existing status.  You will get "Add Transition" Dialog.

2.  From Status select "Any Status"

3.  To Status Select "Itself"

4.  Name this Transition "EDIT"

5.  Select your original Edit Screen under screen field.  Close Dialog.  You should see New Global Transition.

6.  Publish this Workflow (There is bug here.  Publish before next step).

7.  Edit workflow again.

8.  Select new Global transition and create Condition for group access (optional)

9.  Add Post functions and/or validators (optional)

10.  Publish again.

It is actually very simple.

You will get EDIT button to the right of issue status in New Issue vIew (or Edit will be in dropdown under Action Button, if you have additional global transitions or transitions back to the current status (loop transition)

Hey @Dag Atle Stentad

Well I understood your requirement. So you want to see the edit screen like you see in the jira server(when you click on edit button). That isn't possible in New Jira redesigned UI. We cannot enforce any screen. It is just one screen for edit and view. It's just new UI that's there in cloud we have to use.

Only at the create screen we get that form to fill out the fields after that edit should be done inline in jira cloud.

Also we don't have an option to switch back to old view(other than providing ?oldIssueView=true in each URL) as of now that functionality is no longer there. Earlier we had that but not now.

Please check this link there are few FAQ's mentioned at then end of page https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/what-is-the-new-jira-issue-view/

Vishwas

Hi @Dag Atle Stentad

but I'm not able to get the view when I edit the issue or when I create or edit a subtask "

Is there any way to force the edit-screen when we edit issue,

can you be more clear ?? couldn't get which view you want when you edit or create a subtask .

Navigate to "All issue " clicking on the issue you will get issue detail view where you can edit.
