Creating multiple templates for same issue type

Anuradha Madhyani May 7, 2020

Hi All,

We are a team of teams, and hence our jira is a mess due to huge number of custom fields , and different requirements from different teams. Some teams need story issue type to have x custom field and others need y custom field. Now, we are working towards creating standard templates for issue types. For example, to have 2 different templates for story issue type , one having 10 fields based on what suits  a set of teams  and another having 12 fields with different custom fields based on the requirements of a different set of teams.

Does Jira offers capability to create such different versions of same issue type? Kindly share how this can be achieved?

Thanks

Anuradha

Hello @Anuradha Madhyani

Thank you for reaching out.

Per your description, I understand you would like to set different screen schemes (with different fields) to the same issue type on the same project. Is that correct?

Unfortunately, Jira does not have a way to map multiple screens with a different set of fields for a single issue type in a single project, however, there are some other options that might give you the same results:

  1. You can create different issue types and configure different screen schemes for them based on your team necessity, as "Design Story", "Back-end Story", etc.
  2. You can configure multiple tabs in your issue screens, each one related to a team, and displaying the relevant fields for the team that will be working on that issue. This is a good option if you are not planning to use required fields.
