Creating sub tasks to dummy task to ensure all tasks done ?

Hi experts,

strangely we use Jira for work and do not really follow agile stuff. 

So I have a bunch of requirements to do so please suggest if this is a right approach 

Epic - > We were provided and unfortunately cannot use

1. So I create a Task and link this to Epic 
2. and add 5 requirements I need to do to achieve as subtasks linked to the above Task 

and when I finish all the subtasks, the task is done and as Task is linked to Epic

Is this the right approach?
