Cumulative Flow Diagram - Negative Values when 'Done' Deselected

When I deselect the 'Done' column in the cumulative flow diagram, negative values appear.

The reason I'm deselecting the column is that the large number of issues that have been 'Done' ruin the scaling of the other columns on the Y axis, so the diagram doesn't convey any useful information.

Here is the overview, showing the negative values:

negative values.png

I have tried extensively to reproduce this weird behaviour intentionally using new tickets with a 'test' label and then applying a quick filter to the CFD:

  1. I tried moving tickets unconventionally through the workflow
  2. I tried moving tickets part way through the workflow in other projects, before only then moving them to this project
  3. I tried closing, reopening, and restarting tickets in the weirdest ways I could imagine

With all of this, the diagram successfully read the status history and displayed it correctly without any negative values - so I have not been able to establish the root cause of these negative values.

Please help me sort this so that the data becomes useful

Note: The number of issues in each column as stated by the diagram is in the hundreds, whereas the number of issues actually in each column is less than 20 - I'm not sure if this is a separate or related issue...

Since the CFD doesn't allow for zoom, a workaround i use is to add quickfilters to my boards for the timeframes i want to zoom into:

CFD 2 weeks: (resolved is empty or resolved > -14d)

CFD 4 weeks: (resolved is empty or resolved > -28d)

CFD 8 weeks: (resolved is empty or resolved > -56d)

To use, apply one of the filters and also set the timeframe in the report to match.

There's a jira ticket in the cloud backlog with atlassian i submitted for this a while back that's still todo.  We've since moved to using 3rd party plugins for flow reports.

Additional note.  The above obviously assumes that you're leveraging the resolution field in your workflows.  You can adjust to use whatever criteria you use to mark issues as done if you arent leveraging resolution (though you really should)

Thanks for the response @Randy but I don't know how your answer relates to negative values on the chart - can you clarify how to solve this?

Are you applying any quick filters to get the negative values?  I'm thinking that part is just a bug since i'm not running into it on my cloud instance.

If it only happens when you remove Done, perhaps you can use the "zoom" trick i posted above to avoid having to remove done from your CFD.

I do have the same issue. Thank you for the "Quick filter" workaround. This, at least, allows to navigate the CFD with >30.000k PBIs in total for a given timeframe.

Alas, the initial post (negative values) is not solved with this.
