Custom date field resets when field is updated in filter

A month or so ago we started having this problem where when working with a filter and custom date fields. The date field sometimes resets to empty when you select a specific date range you want to filter. This only occurs when using the basic filter editing interface, so our workaround has been manually adjusting these in the JQL. 

Is this a bug? or has anyone else seen this happen before?

I am not sure I quite understand what you're saying, can you re-phrase the problem? 

When and where are you using this query?  Have you tried creating a query, switching to advanced interface, then saving the query to use in filters/widgets?
