Custom field with picklist that can be added to?

I want to add a field for "Vendors" to my Purchasing project. I would like to give users the option to pick from a list of vendors but also add vendors to the list so they can be used again for later issues. Is this possible?

Hi Michael. I don't know if there is a better way (and I would like to know!), but I had a similar demand and I've used a label custom field to solve it. 

The label field allows to search in a list and to create new labels..
