Customize error message in REST response using Elements Connect

Hello Community!

I have a Elements Connect field which is getting results from a REST endpoint. When I open my field in Elements Connect, it has an option (Debugger checkbox option under Advanced tab) to show the error message when there's some error in rest response or any execution error.

Elements Connect_debugger.png

This option displays the error message just below the field (The technical error response with code like "Error! Response code from server : '500'"). But I didn't find any option to customize the error message.

How do I need to display the end user understandable error message just below the Elements Connect field?

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

Kumar

Hello @KL Kumar

I'm part of the Elements Support team.

This option is mainly used by the support team and developers to understand what happens when a problem occurs with our app. These messages are hard-coded and each one corresponds to a specific error. They are not intended to be seen by users and it's not possible to customize them, I am sorry.

You can still customize a specific message when your Connect field query doesn't return any result. I advise you to read the following documentation on this subject: Field editor options - 'No result' label

If needed, I invite you to raise a request on our Support platform to explain your use case in detail. We will then consider creating a Change Request accordingly.

Have a nice day.

Kind regards,
Simon.

Hello @Simon Laffont

We are already using no label message. But it is quite unclear to the end user  - whether there's really no value OR some error behind the scenes and that's the reason there is no value. In regard of this our users are looking for a customized meaningful error message just under the field when there's an error behind the scenes.

To fulfil my case, I felt debugger option can be used. Is this recommended to use in production environment to show the error under fields ?

Best Regards!

Kumar

Hello @KL Kumar,

No, we don't recommend displaying this option to end users. The error messages are usually not easy to understand for most of them, can be misinterpreted, and it's not possible to edit them to make them clearer.

Moreover, if an error message is displayed, it means that there is a problem that needs to be analyzed and resolved. It may be a problem with our app or with one of the datasources you have connected to it. To find out, I suggest you contact us on our Support platform so we can investigate.

Kind regards,
Simon.
